Founded in 1998 by wild cohorts,

artists, and best friends:

Jayne Matthews & Chri Longstreet

Their vision first came to life in a vacant church in the vibrant Lower Haight district, where the two created an art gallery and hair salon space so they could experiment freely and hone their craft.

The first Edo Salon had no sign, website, email, or business cards: Jayne and Chri attracted clients by word-of-mouth. They earned a reputation for their unique, hyper-personalized haircuts. The space soon became a springboard for trendsetting street fashion. The pair had built a tight-knit creative community based on art, fashion, and fearless individuality.

In 2019, they opened a second Edo location in Oakland, extending their passion to a wider clientele. Now known around the world for their pioneering techniques and artful, individualized approach, Chri and Jayne spend time teaching other stylists (both amateur and professional) how to master their iconic haircutting techniques.

The focus has always been on individuality:

celebrating the weird and wonderful beauty that makes each person unique.
