Hairdressing has been a lifelong pursuit for GENA. It started with cutting her little sister's bangs at the tender age of 6 (OK . . . she really needed bangs!). Growing up in the punk and goth scene as a teen, GENA would cut and color all of her friend's hair just for fun. She became a licensed stylist at a very young age, attending beauty school classes after school and on weekends. She attended Toni&Guy advanced education classes in cutting and creative color.

GENA's favorite hair styles looks great when air dried, and ultra fabulous with just a minimum of effort! She loves styling hair and teaching her clients how to best apply products and care for their hair. She guides her clients in feeling comfortable with styling techniques that take their personal style to the next level. She loves the bond she forms with her regular clients and enjoys the social side of hairdressing. GENA's clients appreciate her warm personality, upbeat energy and silly sense of humor.

GENA loves photos for guidance and as a visual communication aide. (Bring them in!) But her super power is helping a client that wants a personally tailored look. When a salon guest walks in ready for a change, but has no idea what they really want, Gena is thrilled!

Her favorite styles (right now) are Mia Farrow's pixie cut, David Bowie's shag, Patti Smith's layers, Allison Mosshart's long layers with heavy bangs, and Morrissey's disheveled pompadour. She loves cutting a fresh pixie cut, bangs! bangs! bangs!, broken-in bobs, rock and roll layered shags, and working with naturally curly hair. She also kinda loves a really classic clean cut. Her hairstyling can be described as retro in feel but modern in terms of maintenance and technique.

GENA likes drinking coffee, knitting, live music, art, comics, watching ballet, hanging with her amazing friends and reading a ton of good books. She is an alumnus of UCSC with a degree in American studies with an emphasis on art and culture. She lives in North Berkeley (in a house of men) with her husband Kevin and their sons Ben, a skilled musician, and Teddy, a dedicated young ballet dancer.
